How would you encourage more community engagement from young professionals?
I am a young professional so I think I naturally relate. Forge is an excellent initiative. I also am a Washburn University graduate and consider Washburn a key anchor in my strategy for economic development. I would like to prioritize infrastructure upgrades to the downtown area and capitol complex so young people coming to work at our State Capitol can Work, Play and Live in the center of things with the best amenities.
What do you believe the role of the City Council should be in the development and support of the city's cultural and economic infrastructure for young professionals?
I see my role as to be the leader of the City’s legislative body, the City Council, while working alongside with the city manager. As a body, though we are many parts, we need to build consensus around ordinances that are sensible and will help our city grow. The mayor needs to keep that decision-making happening smoothly.
